Case Study: Fraudulent Income Tax Returns Filed
The Generali Global Assistance (GGA) assistance center received a call from a customer reporting that someone had fraudulently filed state and federal income tax returns using his name and Social Security number. The customer’s tax agent alerted him to the situation and had already notified the IRS. Understandably, the customer was concerned and needed assistance in disputing the fraudulent returns. Additionally, he wanted to determine if any other fraudulent activity associated with his identity had occurred, and if so, what steps were required to correct it and what he could do to prevent additional damage.
